Tuataras are number 6 on The Most Extreme Freeloaders. They are the only survivors of a large group of reptiles that roamed the Earth at the same time as the dinosaurs. Although they are capable diggers, they prefer to move into the burrow of a fairy prion. The prions don't particulary like the tuatara, but they can defend themselves so they ignore it for the first 3 months. After the prion lays its eggs, sometimes both parents have to leave the nest, so the tuatara helps himself to some scrambled eggs. Tuataras are responsible for the loss of more than 25% of fairy prions' eggs and chicks, but it seems to have no significant impact on seabirds population.
