Monk Parakeets are number 9 on The Most Extreme Global Conquerors. Since leaving its home in Argentina, they have conquered 17 countries around the world. They use woven sticks to build a nest that is two meters long and weighs 180 kilograms. Each nest can contain twenty individual chambers. Between the late 60's and early 70's, 64,000 of them were imported to the United States as pets. It wasn't long before a few escaped their cages and returned to the life of a wild bird. Their population approximately doubles every 5 years.
